A text typeface of 8 cuts: 
Book, Medium, Bold, Black, 
and their Italics
Samset is a humanist serif text typeface of eight cuts. It is an attempt to rationalize geometric details while preserving the fluid movements of the hand. Originating as a brush exploration, it went through various iterations where redundant curves and nodes were omitted, resulting in a straightforward appearance with low contrast, asymmetrical serifs, sharp edges, and precise 90° stroke ends. The typeface originated as Blitz, my graduation typeface at Type West 2022 and and has evolved since then.

Screen-printed silver type Dis/connected is a typeface and an A0 mixed-media poster based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s quote: “I have never resisted a wave.” The poster is an interplay of contrast: between stencils and the connected script, between the screen-printed type and digital gradient. Through juxtaposition, it serves as a metaphor for how we live as individuals, yet act and react as a collective. 

Dis/connected was presented in the exhibition “Over/Under” at the Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts in 2023.
